Chapter

Desiree Carlson was a stone’s throw from the water heater when it decided to blow. The explosion rocked the entire diner, and petite and pretty little blonde Desiree was hurled across the boiler room, smack into a cinder block wall that did nothing to cushion her re-entry to earth. Covered in grit and glass, Desiree lay on the basement floor with flames popping all around her. Her precious blonde hair was first to go, and she didn’t even notice; she just lay unconscious on the floor as the fire crawled onto her body.

Her mother would later thank God that at least she was unconscious; according to the doctor, Desiree didn’t feel a thing.
